The Practice of Succession
12.09.22
ING Media has published the latest report in its research series, focused on succession in the built environment sector.
The Practice of Succession, written by The Times’ architecture correspondent Jonathan Morrison, features interviews with representatives from a number of practices that have been through the succession process, alongside recommendations to help those about to embark on it.
The report offers a timely insight into some of the complicated and sensitive issues around succession, and could become a valuable tool for architects of all levels. As well as practice leaders considering how to pass on the reins, it is becoming increasingly important to other staff members as they think about their own career progression and prospects.
“Succession planning is a difficult subject that many architects continue to grapple with. For those that have built their businesses, planning your own departure feels like an unnatural act. Others may be more junior, waiting patiently on the sidelines to progress when founders step aside. The interviews in this report are fascinating and offer valuable insights that we hope will benefit those who are setting up a practice with an eye on the future, as well as those who realise that, with the passing of time, action needs to be taken.”

The practices featured are ADAM Architecture, Arup, Bennetts Associates, Grimshaw Architects, Hawkins\Brown, Henning Larsen, MICA Architects, NBBJ and RSHP.
