ING book club: The Walker with Matthew Beaumont

The first in our #INGBookClub series featured Matthew Beaumont’s The Walker: On Losing and Finding Yourself in the Modern City’ published by Verso earlier this year to critical acclaim.

In a series of riveting intellectual rambles, Matthew retraces a history of the walker and questions our relationships with cities: Can you really get lost in a crowd? What differentiates the city of daylight and the nocturnal metropolis? Can we save the city – or ourselves – by taking to the pavement?

With many discovering the joys of walking in 2020, the event made for a fascinating conversation on how we interact with places and spaces as we move from A to B.

Watch the full conversation below and follow @ingmedia_ on Instagram for updates on future events.

All books that we discover through the ING Book Club will have an at least tangential connection to the built environment, with subjects ranging from architecture and design to how places and spaces affect our health and wellbeing.
