Architecture

OBR Open Building Research is an international practice based in Milan and London with a network that expands to New York, Beijing, Mumbai and Accra.

OBR’s approach focuses on research and sustainable urban design and architecture that promotes and creates a sense of community and a strong identity for the scheme’s end-users.

OBR has recently completed the award-winning Milanofiori Residential Complex in Milan, Italy and the ‘Pietro Barilla’ Children’s Hospital in Parma, Italy, as well as several residential projects for private clients in London. The practice is also active in developing countries, where it works on major social and public development projects including a new waterfront regeneration scheme in Cesme, Turkey, a mixed-use complex in Jaipur, India and the Hope City project in Accra, Ghana.

Directors Paolo Brescia and Tommaso Principi worked together at the Renzo Piano Building Workshop before founding OBR in 2000. Both combine the practice of architecture with academic commitments at leading international universities. OBR’s projects and installations have been featured in major international exhibitions and architecture biennales around the world and the practice has won numerous international awards.
