Mæ is a practice of architects, urban designers and researchers that design buildings that seek to address today’s urban, social and environmental challenges. Their aim is always to create buildings and places that enrich culture and society.
The practice works on regeneration projects for public and private sector clients in the housing, workplace, health & care, civic and cultural buildings sectors. Mæ is on numerous frameworks for leading Housing Associations and works with a majority of London’s local authorities as well as private developers such as PegasusLife and Urban Splash.
Award winning projects include Agar Grove, an estate regeneration project for London Borough of Camden currently in its first phase and NLA Housing Award Winner, Somerleyton Road, an extra-care scheme that allows independent living in Brixton for London Borough of Lambeth. The practice has also developed My House, custom-build housing that they design and build, offering turnkey solutions direct to the market.
Mæ is led by Alex Ely, former Head of Sustainable Communities at CABE. He has led the practice in establishing an international reputation for innovation and excellence and has been responsible for award winning schemes from masterplans to cultural buildings, housing to health care as well as for the Mayor of London’s Housing Design Guide and numerous best practice publications for CABE. Alex is a member of the GLA’s and London Legacy Development Corporation’s Review Panels and the RIBA’s Housing Policy Group. He is a frequent public speaker at national and international urban and design forums.
